“When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!”
I sang the words from my hymnal, but I wasn’t sure I believed them. There were so many questions I had about Heaven, and they tormented me.
What will we look like? Will we have new bodies right away? Or is there an in-between place where we wait for our resurrected bodies?
When my precious grandmother died, my curiosity deepened. Was she walking on streets of gold or ‘soul sleeping’ until Jesus comes again?
Then, one day during my Bible reading, I found the answer I’d been looking for.
The apostle Paul is speaking about Heaven when he says, “We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord… and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8).
Paul makes it clear there are two places the people of God are found―on earth and in Heaven. We’re either alive on earth or in Heaven with the Lord.
There’s no in-between. No waiting for Him to show up.
That’s what spurs us to walk by faith, knowing something better awaits us. Jesus Christ is that Something Better. He’s our greatest Treasure in Heaven.
It was the assurance I’d been looking for. At the very moment we take our last breath, we’ll enjoy the immediate, unrestricted, glorious presence of our Lord.
I still don’t have all the answers. I’m not sure if our spirits will be clothed right away. Or whether we’ll have to wait for our resurrected bodies. But I’m confident of one thing―
We’ll be with Jesus.
Therefore, “when we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!”

Oh, I love that, Cindy! Thank you! It’s so true. For all the questions I have, the answer always comes back to Jesus. He truly is the beginning and the end. Can you imagine seeing Him face to face? Yes! What a day that till be!
Nikki, yes! The answer always comes back to Jesus! The older I get, the more convinced I become:)
Again, God brings a truth to light in different ways. That was the text my husband used in a sympathy card to a senior saint and friend of his who just left his tent behind and is now at home with the Lord. Thanks for bringing it to light.
Abigail, what comforting words to share with someone at the threshold of heaven!
