I stood in the kitchen with my face in my hands. I was stuck at a point in a project where I just couldn’t figure out my next step.
“Ugh, I just need to know what to do,” I murmured.
“Why don’t you just ask Jesus?” my youngest asked as she coyly smiled and rubbed her little head into her arm as it rested on the counter. She knew she was right, and she was so proud of herself for having advice for her momma.
And there, once again, the most basic and yet profound response out of the mouth of a child. Why don’t I ask Jesus? Why do I tend to default to retreating into my own mind? Why do I flip through past experiences, trying to recycle or repurpose a solution, rather than go to my Father? And why, goodness, do I do this all the time?
As I looked at her, I had a sense that was also how God was looking at me in that moment. With a grin on His face, stating the obvious without judgement, rather with delight that He is the answer, each and every time—even if I keep forgetting.
Are you stuck today, friend? Do you find yourself grasping for creativity? For the right next step in just about anything, just ask Jesus to speak. He will. This we can have our confidence in.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God”(Ephesians 4:6). Why? For many incredible reasons, including that He delights in giving good gifts to those He calls His.
