Do you ever feel like life is a freight train barreling down the tracks and you can barely hang on, let alone savor it?
I’ve walked through endings and beginnings, sorrows and joys. You have too, friend. Training our hearts to look backward and give thanks also enables us to look forward in hope.
God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Hebrews 12:2 describes Him as “the author and perfecter of our faith” (ASV). In fact, if we look back at our lives, we see not a perfect life but His presence, perfecting us.
So, as we bid adieu to this past year and look forward to what lies ahead, I’m bringing this spirit of thanksgiving with me. For it’s in the act of giving that we make room to receive. I’m choosing faith over fear by reminding my heart that God has been with me and He will be with me again. It’s something small we can all do, this act of giving and receiving.
We give our anxiety and receive His peace.
We give our trust and receive His hope.
We give our thanks in all things, making room for more of our KING.
Season after season, year after year, there is always us and Jesus. So let’s celebrate the newness of this new year. Rejoice in the changes life brings your way. May it bring us all to a place of giving thanks, and in doing so, make room for the King.
