On a recent podcast episode, Hal Elrod, author of “The Miracle Morning,” shared about how he starts his morning with his children.
He wakes them by rubbing their backs and saying things such as, “I love you so much…You’re going to have a great day…Let’s have an awesome morning together as a family…” He also reminds them of what day it is in order to help orient them to what’s ahead, and he said that his overall goal for greeting his kids this way each morning is to help them start their day on a positive note.
This is probably the most touching description I’ve heard of how a parent wakes their children, and I couldn’t help but wonder: Is this how God, my Father, wakes me?
While I’ve never thought much about it before, surely our heavenly Father shows us love every morning, even when we’re unaware of it. After all, Isaiah 50:4 declares that God “wakens me morning by morning” (NIV), and King David prayed to hear of God’s unfailing love each morning (Psalm 143:8).
So lately when I wake, I lie in bed imagining God speaking to me the way Hal Elrod speaks to his kids: “I love you so much…We’re going to have a wonderful day together…”
It’s such a comforting reminder that I’m not alone and that God is taking care of me, and it helps me move into the day remembering the most important thing about myself: I am loved by God.
How can you remind yourself of God’s love during the first few minutes of your morning?
