Did you fall asleep last night with tears staining your pillow? Have you cried out into the darkness of those lonely nights, “What can I do to fix my marriage, God? What did I do to deserve this?”
Is your marriage teetering over a cliff’s edge threatening to fall on the rocks below? I understand your tears and desperate pleas. For countless nights I cried myself to sleep with uncontrollable tears and sobs. I pled those same desperate and doubt-filled cries to God. I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know how to keep my marriage from falling onto those rocks below.
Sweet sister in Christ, our loving God sees you; He hears you. I searched for answers in all directions but finally learned the true and only Source for the answers I desperately longed for was God’s Word.
In this heartbreaking and challenging time; in your darkest moments where struggles threaten your marriage, I urge you to remember the lessons of these three Scriptures:
1.“For I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance” (Philippians 1:19).
Community prayers and the help of the Holy Spirit will deliver you from your suffering. Remember to seek the prayers of your innermost community (those with whom you can safely share your struggles and trust to maintain your confidences). And don’t forget you have a Helper every moment of every day!
2. “And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them” (Acts 16:7).
I got stuck in quicksand when I didn’t know how to fix my marriage. Why? I was looking for answers in all the wrong places. I was relying on myself for solutions rather than God. This Scripture assures that when you turn to God’s Word for answers, the Holy Spirit will guide you and keep you from doing things disobedient to God’s will.
3. “Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child” (Galatians 4:6-7).
Sweet sister, whether you’re facing difficulties in your marriage or some other challenge, recall this beautiful, life-changing Truth: As believers, Jesus is present and lives within us through the Holy Spirit; therefore, we are no longer slaves to the challenges of this world, but we are blessed to be daughters of God!
