Pumpkins are such a beautiful representation of bounty in harvest time, and this simple pumpkin vase offers an opportunity to add a quintessential fall flourish to the thanksgiving table. Find out how, in just a few easy steps, you can create a stunning and unique fall centerpiece for your dining table or mantle this holiday season.
SUPPLIES
- Pumpkin, foam or real
- Flowers faux or fresh
- Serrated Knife
- Bread Knife (for foam pumpkins)
- Pumpkin Scoop (for fresh pumpkins)
- Glass Jar (a standard Ball jar works well)
- Scissors
- Marker
- Wire Cutters (for faux flowers)

PROCESS
1. Place your glass jar upside down over the stem of the pumpkin, and trace around the jar’s lip with a marker.
2. Using your serrated knife, cut around the marked circle so that the opening is slightly larger than the circumference of the jar.

3. Remove the top and stem. Continue to dig away at the pumpkin until a cylinder-sized hole is large enough to hold the jar. A real pumpkin will be most easily cleaned out with a pumpkin scoop. A foam pumpkin is best cleaned out with a butter knife. Heads up: It will be messy!
(*NOTE FOR FRESH PUMPKINS: Spraying the inside of the pumpkin with a mixture of 1 teaspoon bleach or Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap to 1 quart water will allow your fresh pumpkin to last longer.)
4. Once you are certain the jar will fit into the pumpkin without sticking out, add water to it and place it into the pumpkin hole. Fresh pumpkins may require a taller jar or tumbler, or perhaps just long-stemmed flowers.
5. Arrange your flowers in the pumpkin vase. You may need to snip some of your stems so that the blooms burst out of the pumpkin at a pleasing height.
