Has God asked you to do something that feels completely beyond your abilities? It’s an uncomfortable—even scary—place to be.
When God met Moses at the burning bush and directed him to return to Egypt to help liberate the Israelites, Moses had all sorts of reasons why he wasn’t the man for the job.
Among Moses’ worries was the fear that the Israelites wouldn’t listen to him and that he wouldn’t know what to say if they asked the name of the God who had sent him. He also claimed that he wasn’t a good speaker: “Moses said to the Lord, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue’” (Exodus 4:10, NIV).
But God had an answer for every obstacle. In regard to Moses’ speaking ability, God said, “‘Who gave human beings their mouths?…Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say’” (4:11-12).
I love God’s response: I will help you. I will give you the words to say. I am enough.
It’s easy to become discouraged when we look at ourselves and our own limitations, but when we fix our eyes on Jesus, our perspective completely changes. We realize it’s not about how smart we are, or who we know, or how much money we have. It’s about the fact that we have Someone helping us who knows everything, owns everything, and loves us enough to share it all with us.
Is God asking you to do something that seems beyond your capabilities? Is He asking you to have faith for a promise, repair a relationship, or embark on a new project? Whatever you’re facing today, remember that you are not alone. The Creator of the entire universe is helping you!
